The success of Lien Klokow in a time when COVID-19 sunk many businesses can be attributed to her love of people and her love for photography. Her father was a respected member of ISCOR in the days when the company was a powerhouse in South Africa. He took photos and developed them in his darkroom. She can still recall the smell of the chemicals and the focus he had. As a creative person herself, Lien took those feelings with her. Her creativity is evident in her photography today.
Lien was an ICU sister at Mediclinic for most of her life, but at one stage she even managed a Bonsmara Procession and a game lodge for a while. She eventually ended up in nursing again, but by the start of 2020, she could not physically do nursing anymore due to health issues. After a lot of soul searching she decided to quit and with me, her husband, we started the photography business. We managed to build something from nothing with Lien’s reputation while I wrote freelance for part of our income. I was a military veteran of 27 years and spent 13 of those years as a major. My career was going nowhere in the South African National Defence Force. I felt there was no option but to leave such an apathetic organisation and take my chances with what I had. I have never regretted my decision.

Together with Celani Nel and Stephan Venter, we have launched a unique photographic experience — Reawakening Shoots. It is similar to a makeover, but makeovers imply that you are not good enough. We wanted to get rid of the label and Reawakening Shoots were born.
In a Reawakening Shoot, the client is pampered with hairdressing, makeup, and beautiful dresses followed by a photo shoot. All of this happens in the Lien Klokow Photography studio or at outside venues as the client requires. Reawakening Shoots are a great way to reward a family member with well-deserved pampering.
